"Ayurveda and Kangen Water: Hydrate to Elevate Your Wellness Journey"
Water gives us life. The healing power of water is the most overlooked medicine we have on the planet. In recent times, Kangen Water has emerged as a transformative force in promoting optimal health and well-being.
Whenever I, my husband or daughters feel uncomfortable symptoms, the first thing I think of before assessing further is how much water have you drunk today?
Some symptoms caused by not enough water in the body are: a dry mouth, fatigue, confusion, anger, dry and red eyes or blurred vision, headaches, disorientation, muscle cramps, inflammation, constipation.
Our bodies are made up of up to 78% of water depending on our age, 70% of our brain, heart, skin, muscles, kidneys, lungs, and liver. Even dry bones have 30% water in them.
We are water in human form.
Water in our body serves to circulate nutrients, carry waste, regulate body temperature, send brain messages, and lubricate all our moving parts. You need enough water to function well and feel good. We lose a lot of water every day through breathing, sweat, urine, and bowel movements, and our good health requires us to replenish our bodies with enough water.
“Water serves as a transporter of energy throughout your body…carried by blood and bodily fluids, it is the means by which nourishment is circulated throughout our bodies…this flow of water enables us to live active lives,” wrote Dr. Emoto.
(If you have not yet read The Hidden Messages in Water, I highly recommend it. - that's a whole topic on its own)
Ayurveda encourages us to drink water so that we can absorb it effectively. Many people chug cold water down and then not soon after find that they pee it straight out. This is a sign that their body did not absorb the water efficiently. Flooding the body with cold water in one go causes stress on the body and forces it to work so much harder than necessary. The cold water also freezes digestive enzymes, restricting digestion, which in turn creates a toxic build-up. Blood vessels constrict from the cold, and the toxins get stuck instead of flowing through the lymphatic system (cleansing system). It also constricts blood vessels from circulating and restricting proper function of organs.
In Ayurveda, it is recommended to drink water between 50 and 70 degrees, allowing our bodies to rehydrate faster because it is absorbed more quickly, helping increase circulation to your digestive system, stimulating your digestion as well as encouraging the natural flow of the lymphatic system. Also, drinking water on an empty stomach increases the body's efficiency to fight against infections.
Kangen Water, a type of ionized, alkaline water, has been shown to provide numerous health benefits. It helps neutralize free radicals and balance the body's pH levels. By incorporating Kangen Water into your daily routine, you can further enhance the absorption and effectiveness of the water you consume.
To help make the water more absorbable, one can add a teaspoon of unrefined mineral salt (Sea Salt, or Pink Himalayan Salt) to every 32-ounce container of water. Add a squeeze of lemon or lime. Soak chia seeds for a few hours and add them to your water. Also, fresh ginger is my favorite. Fruit, cucumber, and herb-infused waters add flavor too.
Ayurveda recommends drinking one tall glass of warm Kangen Water the moment you wake up first thing in the morning (feel free to add salt/lemon/lime/ginger). After your body has worked hard all night to detoxify, this helps it along to wash those toxins out, stimulate and gently wake up your bodily functions. It also gets the body off to a good hydrated start for the day.
How much water to drink a day? One can also have too much water, so finding your balance is key. Set a goal to drink half your body weight in ounces each day, ideally using Kangen Water to maximize its health benefits. If you find you are retaining too much water, talk to your doctor. If you are in the hot sun or exercising and sweating a lot, more water will be needed.
It helps to find a water bottle you like to carry with you all day. Even better is one with measurements, or you can mark your own measurements if you'd like.
All through the day, sip your warm Kangen Water; do not chug. This may take some practice as you create this new habit. 30 minutes before a meal, drink a glass of water. This hydrates the stomach lining so it’s able to produce the sufficient digestive enzymes/stomach acid you need to digest your food. There is a fine balance as if you drink it right before your meal then you may dilute all those wonderful digestive juices and compromise your digestive strength. In Ayurveda, eating your meals at the same time every day creates a routine so your body can prepare itself in advance for all that is required for optimum digestion. Sipping warm water or digestive tea during the meal helps the digestive process along too. 1/3 food, 1/3 liquid/ 1/3 empty is the most ideal balance for healthy digestion.
The quality of water is important too, as drinking water contaminated with BPA or heavy metals or any other toxins will add further strain and complications to the cleansing process. Kangen Water offers a clean and safe alternative, promoting overall health and well-being. I feel so blessed to have pure mountain water coming through our taps here in Switzerland, but in other parts of the world where I was not so lucky, I used filtered water and last year in Turks and Caicos, I bought a Berkey water purification system, and it was worth every penny. The water tasted amazing, and the filter lasts a long time.
You will notice a difference when your hydration levels are balanced. Skin, lips, and hands will feel less dry, blemishes will clear up, and eyes will be clearer and brighter, an overall shine of your hair and skin. You might start to notice you feel less tired in the morning and have more energy to sustain you throughout the day.
Embrace the power of Kangen Water and experience the difference it can make in your daily life. Happy Hydrating!
